Formed in April 2006, TGP has grown to become one of the top guilds on the Laughing Skull server. Please take a few moments to read this page if you're interested in joining the family.

I. Guild Policies/Charter

The Rule & Some Insight Into the Guild Atmosphere

There is only one rule in The General Public - NO DRAMA. It's very simple. TGP works hard to maintain a mature and well-respected player base. We don't mean to say have no fun. Have all the fun you want! Just keep a lid on anything that can adversely affect the guild, the enjoyment of its members and its reputation.

This includes intra-guild drama and inter-guild drama. If you can't handle this one simple rule then you are not for us. There are a plethora of other guilds on Laughing Skull and elsewhere who have open arms to immaturity. TGP is not one of them.

We are a more adult-oriented guild. Many of our members have full time jobs, families and other obligations in real life. We don't discriminate based solely on your age, but this fact helps shape the atmosphere of our guild and is something you should consider before applying.

The Charter

Introduction
The General Public is a guild of tight knit friends first, and an end-game raiding guild second. Don't come to us expecting to raid seven days a week and be at the forefront of end-game PvE. Do come to us expecting to have fun raiding with great people and experience it at a slightly more casual level.

Structure
TGP, quite simply, is led by a Guild Master and 8 officers. Each officer is a representative of one of the classes, and is assigned the role "class leader". TGP tries to maintain an officer for each class although sometimes this may not be possible.

Class Leaders
Their job is to ensure the efficient running of their particular class, attend to problems and issues within that class, answer questions and give advice to their class members. Class leaders/officers have full power over their class. They have the last word on recruiting, they may remove players of their class from the guild, and are free to do anything they feel is required for the betterment of the guild that pertains to their class. Class leaders were placed in their position for a reason and are trusted to make the right decisions.

Class leaders are also responsible for:

- Knowing their class members' attendance frequency
- Keeping track of what loot they receive and when
- Monitoring the performance of their class members in raids

Item Policy
TGP members may not sell any items that are obtained through guild-run raids that may be used for the benefit of the guild (crafting materials, etc).
Normally, the raid leader or master looter will collect these items and deposit them into the bank. All items of this nature have differing policies on their distribution, so feel free to ask any officer about them.

Application Requirements
We are a guild that strives to keep a smaller, tight knit community where everyone knows each other. Not only does this create a more enjoyable playing experience, it strengthens us in our end-game endeavors. When we all know how we play, we can better work together. As such, we have a limited number of people we can recruit based on class needs. If we are not accepting any of your class, you will not get in no matter how good you are. Sorry!

Other Requirements are outlined in the public application forum, as they are subject to change at any time. Static requirements are:

- Attuned to all instances TGP is currently running.
- Ability to use Ventrilo chat and log on whenever possible (mandatory for raids)
- Able to attend most of our raid nights
- Unguilded and dedicated to getting in TGP
- Able to prove your skill, ability to learn and adapt, and show us you're not an asshole on a few trial runs

II. Membership Guidelines

What's expected of you as a member of TGP? Not much. Just a few key things to remember that will make both the experience of you and your guildmates the best it can be.

General Expectations

- Respect Your Guildmates
- NO DRAMA
- Loot is not your #1 priority. It is loyalty to your guild, its well-being and your positive contribution to it.
- Play your absolute best every raid night.

Applying to Other Guilds

This is very simple. If you are found to be applying to another guild, you will be spoken to by your class leader and asked to leave TGP. Look, if you're applying elsewhere, obviously you're unhappy here. That's fine. But you don't belong here taking up space for those who want to be. If you refuse to leave peacefully on your own, you'll then be forcibly removed.

III. Looting System

We are currently using an Officer Loot "Merit" based system using class officers handling loot for their class, overseen by a general loot master (generally the GM). If you are leary of officer loot based systems, I encourage you to ask any of our members if the system is fair.

Here are some advantages of officer loot:

1. Ability to distribute loot both in a manner that is fair and beneficial to the advancement of our guild.
2. No bookkeeping.
3. No arguing over DKP costs.
4. No hurt feelings when the new guy gets the item the old guy's been pining for every week for 2 months.
5. Flexibility to express interest in items ahead of time which, depending on others' requests, could influence who gets it.

Officer Loot Selection during events is performed as follows:

A. The Raid Leader (or appointed looter) will post the item and ask interested members to /random. This is simply to show interest.
B. The Officers discuss the list of names, considering the relevant guild objectives.
C. The Raid Leader (or appointed looter) calls for votes, and each Officers states simply the name of the person they're voting for. The Guildmaster's vote (if present) counts as 1.1 votes (capable of breaking a tie, but otherwise equal to the others). Officers online but not present at the event may still vote. Officers may still participate in votes that involve themselves as a possible recipient.
D. The Raid Leader (or appointed looter) sends the item to the winning player.

- In "B", where it states "considering the relevant guild objectives", the following should be taken as the foundation for that discussion, used as a guide by the Officers in determining how they will vote:

o Primary Objectives:

1. The Good of the Guild. As in everything we do, the guild is more important than any of us. If, for some reason, the assignment of this particular piece of loot is felt to have an impact on "the good of the guild", then this consideration takes precedent over all others. This includes all BoP and BoE crafting recipes which will be given to members with the appropriate skills based on seniority and availability. Recipes do not count as received loot.

o Secondary Objectives:

1. Merit. There are many forms of merit, including (but not limited to): repeated attendance, willingness to help others, contribution to the guild's aims and atmosphere (in-game or otherwise).

2. Even and Equitable Distribution. In an effort to ensure everyone is rewarded, the Officers keep track of who's recently received what. In considering who will receive an item, there is an attempt to "share the wealth" so that loot is not directed to the same people repeatedly while others are passed over.

3. Current Gear. Sometimes during the looting process, the officers may ask to see what the players competing for an item are currently wearing. This will often have an impact on the decision. If the item being looted is a tremendous upgrade for Player A, but only a slight upgrade or side-grade for Player B, Player A will have the advantage.

Side Note: It is important to realize that you should choose carefully items between your set and those that are not part of a set. A mage, for example, who takes the Mantle of the Blackwing Cabal, will be expected to have no problem waiting until most if not all other mages who are waiting for the Netherwind Mantle to have it before taking their own.

o Minor Concerns:

1. Behavior Modification. Behaviours to be encouraged should be rewarded, while those to be discouraged should not. (e.g. Someone who whines openly about not receiving something is not likely to, as we've no desire to turn into a guild full of whiners. Someone who feels they've been overlooked and follows the correct procedure by discussing the situation with their class leader are much more likely to get results.)

2. Rot Items. Some items may not be wanted by anyone. In the case that no interest is expressed for an item, it will not be given out for free. If BoP and of epic quality, the item will go to the guild enchanter for nexus crystals. If BoE and epic quality, the item will be held by the guild's main bank and either offered to a guild member at a later date based on merit, or will be sold to fund the guild bank, or will be disenchanted for nexus crystals.

IV. Leadership & Guild Structure

Leadership will be organized under a single Guild Master and 8 officers who are also the class leaders.

Guild Master: Naldonzo

Officers: Ilanna, Stinkypillow, Prettz, Wiggumx, Ilvatar, Teegee

Veterans : Members who are at least three months a full, active, highly contributive and upstanding member of the guild. Promotion to veteran is considered after a nomination by another veteran, officer or GM.

Members: Members have completed their initiate period and are eligible for all guild benefits.

Initiates: New members to the guild. They are observed carefully, especially by their class leader. They are not eligible for loot or any guild benefits during the initiate period. After a minimum of 2 weeks, or longer if deemed necessary by guild leadership, they may be promoted to full member based on observations and the voting of veterans and above.

Applicant: This member is running trials for entry into TGP and promotion to Initiate status.

If the initiate is found to be an imperfect fit for the guild based on any standards listed on this page, he will be asked to leave.

V. Guild Bank:

The guild bank is open for all members. Anyone may deposit anything they like. For withdrawls, please see any officer.

VI. Raiding Rules and Guidelines

Official guild raids are run in accordance to the official schedule posted on the website and forums. As stated previously, raids are filled on a first come, first serve basis, holding in mind the need for certain classes in consideration with what we are doing that night.

Raid Invites

Will typically begin 30 minutes before the raid starting time. This means that you should be online by now and ready for an invite. You should be wherever it is announced that we're going by the start time. If you sign on late, you aren't guaranteed a spot. Solution: be on time.

Raid Start Times & First Pull

The first pull will be no later than 10 minutes after the listed raid start time. DO NOT ASK FOR SUMMONS IF YOU ARE LATE. It's just annoying, not to mention lazy. If we start without you, better hurry up and get moving instead of begging for a summon.

General Raid Behavior Guidelines

- Have fun! We aren't there because it's our job. We're there because we want to have fun. However...
- Do not let the fun part get out of hand. Focus when the raid leader asks you to. Listen when (s)he is speaking. Don't make the raid leaders use the global mute function. But they will.
- You must come prepared. Repair your equipment. Buy enough reagents to last the night. Bring appropriate gear and alternate gear sets. Come stocked with appropriate consumables.
- You must come ready to perform! When we are learning new content, we expect you to be on your A-game.
- All of the above will greatly affect your chances to be chosen for raids more frequently.

Raid End Times

We try to end weekday raids at 11 p.m. server time. There will be no penalties for leaving for valid reasons, as we are not intenting to crack the whip and make slaves out of you. But if you're getting those infamous "loot headaches", be sure that we will notice...

"No-Loot Headaches"

Yes, I have devoted an entire sub-section to this phenomenon. In the past some unscrupulous individuals have decided to sign off from raiding after they get their item(s) or when we pass a certain boss and they have nothing else to gain personally from continuing.

I am here to say that this cannot happen. This kind of behavior is grounds for removal from the guild. You are here not only for yourself but for everyone else as well. We are nothing without the cooperation of everyone.

Raid Makeup, Class Balance and Skill Level

Like it or not, some raid nights will require certain mixtures of classes. All raids not on farm status require the best geared and best skilled core raiders in the guild.

Do not complain if you aren't invited on a particular night if no more of you class is needed in the raid, or you aren't invited to a learning instance because your gear and/or skill level is not up to par. Solution: work on your gear in farmable instances.

Alt Characters

We realize the desire to sometimes want to bring an alt character to a raid. It helps keep the game fresh and fun for some people. While we will not prohibit alts from attending, they need to meet a few requirements:

- The alt is sufficiently geared as to not significantly hinder the raid
- The raid is on "farm status" and we are not attempting new encounters
- The class balance of the raid that night permits the use of your alt's class

Getting loot on your alt

See our forums for guidelines on receiving epic loot on any alt characters as these are subject to change.
